I spent 2 nights in a spacious room with a fine mountain view. The hot spring bath was a highlight, especially at night under the stars. Meals were beautifully prepared, and the staff was attentive. A bus stop right in front made sightseeing easy 🌟

Stunning location so close to the onsen located at the river, a bus line, and the mountains of Hakone, it's remote. The place to have dinner not too far away from the hotel is Jiyoryori Yamaboshi. The property offers absolutely gorgeous and stunning rooms with beautiful view and a lovely enclosed balcony, for instance...

The hotel had a remote location in the beautiful hills of Hakone. The staff was willing to help and always smiling. My room was huge with a private bathroom.

The location felt a bit remote, made getting around challenging. Bus services only came hourly, and standing by the road in fast-moving traffic was a bit unnerving. Privacy was a concern in the shower room due to the lack of proper covering over the window. The bed was a traditional futon-comfortable for some, but a firm mattress might not suit everyone. The food served, while traditional, didn't always hit the mark, and the lack of alternative dining options was disappointing.

Everything was perfect, so were scenic views of the lush green mountains. The location in a mountain stetting with beautiful views was particularly good and gorgeous. And it was also just next door to the river, the outdoor onsen on a crisp winter morning, and the garden and the river.

Loved this traditional hotel, recommend. Sincerely, it was a very relaxing stay for one night. The location was stunning, to forested hillside, better than I ever had before...

Staying at Hoeiso was a blend of beauty and small challenges. The ryokan is surrounded by lush greenery, giving a serene feel right from the start. The outdoor onsen near the river offered an amazing atmosphere, especially at night. Sitting in the warm water under the stars felt magical. The futons provided were surprisingly comfy. The overall decor is traditional and adds to the cultural immersion. The staff were attentive, eager to accommodate requests. The dinner was beautifully presented, highlighting local cuisine vibes, but it was a bit too adventurous for my taste. Some dishes felt unusual without being particularly delicious. Breakfast had more familiar items, which helped. I noticed a slight musty smell in the room, perhaps from age or previous smoking, which wasn't pleasant. Only one small towel for the onsen felt inadequate. A restaurant nearby could offer a familiar menu for those with kids. All considered, the onsen experience was the highlight, despite the food being hit or miss. I'd suggest coming prepared for the unique dishes and perhaps bringing extra towels if you enjoy bathing daily.

Tranquil Escape with Fine Views
The private outdoor onsen at night was picturesque, great to unwind under the stars. Meals were a good experience, with beautifully prepared kaiseki courses that showcased local flavors. The location was convenient with a bus stop right outside. The bath access could be better managed, as the hours were somewhat limited.

Couple's lovely experience
We loved our private outdoor onsen the night of our stay, then we each used the male/female outdoor onsens the next morning before breakfast. The views were beautiful!
It wasn't cheap, but still acceptable.

great stay but minor timing issues
The views of the mountainside were amazing, especially at sunrise. The staff was friendly, including providing umbrellas when it was raining. The set meals featured unique local ingredients. The picturesque mountain view.
I wish the private onsen hours were more flexible.

Beautifully kept grounds, traditional tatami mat rooms, magical outdoor onsen experience
The path to the onsen lacks adequate lighting, especially with children!!! Upgrade the room furnishings which feel outdated, and address the cold spots in winter months for more comfort!!!
